Dr Elsie Inglis (1864-1917) was not only a surgeon, but also a suffragette and a Licentiate of the three Scottish Royal Medical Colleges. She received education and training in Edinburgh and at the Royal Infirmary in Glasgow, dedicating her work to enhancing maternal care and healthcare for women. In addition, she established a women-staffed maternity hospital in Edinburgh and later, during the First World War, she organized the Scottish Women's Hospital for Foreign Service, establishing hospitals for troops in Serbia and Russia.
